Flax Seeds are small, oval, reddish with pointed ends produced on plant- Linum usitatissimum. It is grown in different parts of Nepal, India, Bhutan and different parts of World. Flaxseeds are known as ‘Alas’ (आलस) in Nepali. Alas is used for making prickles, food recipes, masala and chutney.

Flax Seed or Alas has high fiber contents, omega-3 fatty acids, lignans, polyunsaturated fatty acids and calories. It is beneficial for lowering cancers risk, maintaining weight, reduce cholesterol and blood pressure.

The scientific name of flaxseed is Linum usitatissimum. It belongs to family Linaceae. It contains mainly shrubs plants species. Linum are mostly cultivated for extracting oil and for flavoring agent or as masalas in different food recipes.
